Not appealing line.

Did you receive an insanely stupid spam message? Or yet another spam message with (!!) no URL? Post it here so we can continue to laugh at mentally-challenged spammers.

This is a 3fer — Not Appealing, Utter Nonsense and Stupid all in one:

Subject: Ugly head from the water

Did that Lady never go

Best wishes,
forthright

Two thoughts occur:

1) This guy must have slept through all of his Marketing 101 lectures.

2) I wonder if he has any success with his pick-up line?

Subject: Courage of your weenie

Seeing "courage" and "weenie" in the same sentence is so bizarre ... Just imagine a movie action hero fighting his way past evil defenders, saving the damsel in distress. As they relax together when they reach safety, she says seductively, "Hmm, what's that bulge in your pants, your weenie?"

At which point his bulge probably gets considerably smaller.

Ok, a little advice, guys: If you find this concept appealing, your penis size is not your problem. It's the fact that your attitude is repulsive to women.

Subject: Be flamy in amor

Always enough of arousal with our new pilules for boosting a man in you!

All I can envision reading that line is a medieval knight with flames licking out of the joints of his suit of armor. "Flamy" might be acceptable in Scrabble, but at least in the US, it isn't used in modern English. After that comes a French word and a second word found only in the dictionary, with plenty of incorrect use of prepositions and articles to make it sound like complete nonsense.

In what corner of the universe is the term "pilules" (600,000 Google hits supposedly using an English language filter) more commonly used and understood than pills (40,900,000 hits, same filter)?

Even with a French filter, the first term earns only 1,140,000 hits (which means the mysterious corner of the universe is located somewhere in France?) :?

Seems that the spammers really are stupid if they use words understood by only a small fraction (1.5-3%) of their potential market.

But then, understandable spam content has never been a top priority before.

The corner that requires spam messages to be delivered to the inbox instead of the spam folder, of course. It's a pretty scuzzy corner, as you might imagine, full of narcissistic idiots who have no legitimate skills to speak of. :)

tacoma43 wrote:But then, understandable spam content has never been a top priority before.

Spammers have a ridiculously skewed world view:

If you can "hit inbox" (meaning avoid being flagged and migrated by spam filters) someone is bound to click on the link in your spam message, no matter what the content actually is.

If they clicked on the link in your spam message, they are likely to order whatever it is you spammed them to buy in the first place.

That content in your spam message has to be massaged within an inch of its life in order to "hit inbox", or you won't achieve any conversion.

They virtually throw the baby out with the bathwater. They care so little about legibility or meaning because they need to bypass filters.

And yet: the spam continues to be sent, every single day. This indicates that unfortunately they're still right. They must be seeing diminished results though.

@SiL

I hope I've misunderstood part of your explanation, because I don't understand why a spam containing the word "pilules" is more likely to reach the Inbox than one containing "pills".

We've been seeing "pilules" for several months at least, and any spam filter worthy of the name would have flagged such messages quickly.

However, you might have nailed it with your comment about compulsive link-clickers. If you're right, that's really scary!

Of course, it's not like the mailers really know what hits the inbox. They only know how many people visit the site and how many place orders.

It could be they got some spam that made it past their own spam filters a while ago that said "pilules" instead of "pills." They thought, "wow, what a clever way to avoid spam filters that look for the string "p-i-l-l," and they started using "pilules" in their own emails. They don't know if it's currently getting blocked more or less than "pills" would, they just know "pills" was getting blocked and still is.
